The sequel, titled Toy Story 2, was once released on November 24, 1999. In the story, Woody is stolen through a toy collector, main Buzz and his friends to release a rescue challenge. Initially, Toy Story 2 was going to be a direct-to-video launch, with development starting in 1996.[137] However, after the cast from Toy Story returned and the story was once considered to be better than that of a direct-to-video launch, it was once announced in 1998 that the sequel would see a theatrical launch.[138]
