The new issue of one of my favourite magazines – Antique Shops and Designers – is out and is now available online HERE. I love to turn this mag’s highlights on the blog because it’s printed here in Houston and lots of of you might now not get a possibility to learn it differently. The mag helps to keep getting better and better and this issue stored me thankfully engaged for a couple of hours. Two articles specifically stood out – Barbara Carlton’s townhouse and Megan Megas’s house. Both have close ties to 2 of Houston’s nice designers, as you're going to see:
Barbara Carlton is the mother of Renea Abbott, proprietor of Shabby Slips in Houston. I all the time communicate concerning the designers I believe are instrumental in starting the “Houston Look” but one way or the other I don’t mention Renea sufficient. Her store is now two decades outdated – wonderful – and when it opened, it used to be a very informal place to go get your furnishings slipcovered in free linen. That didn’t ultimate long even though. Shabby Slips briefly became one of the better antiques and decor stores in Houston who simply took place to slipcover custom furniture in tight, tight slips – some were unimaginable to even inform that they had been slipcovers. Renea has a different mix she makes use of – White linen, black accents, fashionable tables and lamps, gilt mirrors, and fancy antique chandeliers. It’s a glance the place the antiques are coated in white, informal cloth and blended with recent art work. Lots of zebra and leopards are jumbled in to create her look. Her mother, Barbara, additionally has excellent taste and it’s easy to see where Renea inherited her personal aesthetic from. Barbara’s taste is extra informal than Renea’s glamorous look. She’s more into white interiors than Renea.
Pictured in this factor is Carlton’s new townhouse. I’m loving this first picture – the sofa was once “too white” so she had this unfastened slipcover made for it out of linen. Wow! I LOVE this and wish to replica it!! What a perfect concept to have a second set of slips made like this for a quick alternate out. Walls are white, there’s a zebra rug and a black desk. The French chair, one in all a pair, is dressy in its gilt frame however made accessible in its pleasant white cloth. The antlers are vintage. And notice the pillows - two focused within the heart. That’s a really perfect idea, you by no means have to transport them whilst you take a seat down. Shabby Slips makes the BEST pillows in town. They are soooo overstuffed with down, it’s insane.

Dark floors, white partitions and seagrass – mixed with white chairs, ottomans, and a linen settee – all slipcovered. Again, loving the two pillows. As always – there are antiques mixed in to create that friction – right here a dressy black coffee desk – sits up prime. An antique chair is angled off to the facet. I really like the settee’s scalloped back AND palms. It’s peculiar to look scalloped palms. Old flooring lamps take where of aspect tables. And – an enormous horse painting offers movement to the room.
Matching chaises in deep brown velvet with pops of white linen pillows sit reverse the linen settee and white chairs seen above. Notice the fab sconces on the bookcases. And on the mantel – it looks like an empty frame is put on best of a replicate. There are no captions, so I’m winging it right here!
A mixture of chairs round a fabulous limed washed table. The large piece used to be most certainly stained dark and repainted white. The gentle fixture – look acquainted? It’s the similar plaster fixture from France that was once observed in Sally Wheat’s dining room. Notice the black painted trim across the white door. The floors are black – and the walls are dead white. It seems like the floors are some roughly stone or tile – possibly marble? Hard to tell and not using a captions.
The main bedroom – has a romantic vintage curtain valance now used as a cover. As all the time, there’s a touch of gilt. Painted chest and French chair combine with a white painted gentle fixture and a amusing sunburst replicate.
An in depth up of the headboard – I really like this – the twin ovals. And all that white mixed with a brown swath of dreamy velvet.
And in any case, the visitor ro0m has two headboards – with nailheads, a lot of overstuffed pillows and a pair of excellent blue lamps that supply a touch of color in the room. The duvets are European styled.
While Barbara Carlton is the matriarch of Shabby Slips – any other story in this factor shows the home of Megan Megas. Megas has spent the previous decade working for Houston nice Pamela Pierce (maybe one week will pass via once I won’t point out Pam???) Megas is just now branching out on her personal, with Pam’s blessings and encouragement. Megas says Pierce is her mentor and taking a look at her space, I will be able to see the connection. But Megas has a undeniable style of her personal. In her front room, she mixes a white slip settee with a depressing Spanish taste table. A wonderful wing chair is paired with a contemporary ottoman and an natural wood aspect table. Her accessories are huge and few. To see the remainder of her area – read the mag online!
Then there’s the unfold on any other Houston internal clothier pioneer – Beverly Jacomini’s Round Top space farmhouse. Look at this fabulous screened porch! More pics are online.
Another nice article this month is on Axel Vervoordt’s space. The guy at the back of the Belgian glance – it’s a excellent tie in with the “Houston Look” that this month’s issue is full of.
As at all times, the advertisements are just as excellent because the articles.
Oh wow! Look at this advertisement! Now, I'd really rent this clothier!!! She appears to be like so fabulous! Who IS she????

I assumed I’d display a couple of of Renea Abbot’s designs that I’ve beloved through the years:
One of my favorite properties Renea ever did was once this one featured in Veranda a few years in the past. The home is in California and is so stunning. This image was once on the quilt – and I’ve all the time liked it. It’s so Renea – the white slips, the gilt vintage chaises combined with the contemporary art work and vintage sconces. It’s just perfection.
A vignette from the similar house – again perfection. The vintage chair and bust mixed with the contemporary pedestal – all beneath an exquisite chandelier! Those floors!
The kitchen has this beautiful white marble island mixed with the French pastry stand.
A killer blue and white striped vainness table! So lovable – especially with the glam chair.
This image of the bathroom from that home is all over the internet. That’s a marble and glass enclosed bathe in the back of the bathtub.
The assets is improbable. This area shows how trend forward Renea used to be – years ago - with the antique station clock and row of lanterns. Wisteria is promoting a couple of those antique metal urns right now. I wish I had the entire photos from this text – but that is all I've!
This area Renea designed is in Houston. I’m crazy over its eating room – so glorious on account of this gorgeous pair of chandeliers!! 18th century French. Stunning!!
Her own townhouse which she stocks with her husband who just occurs to possess the most efficient carpet/rug retailer in Houston: Creative Flooring. The partitions was white – after which sooner or later she hung the Kelly Weartsler paper in black! And in a stroke of genius – she adds the chair in the same development. The gentle fixture is to die for
Another view – out the balcony.
This view displays some of the pair of mirrors and the replicate chest.
Today, this room is a eating room – but back then, it was once a circle of relatives room. The reflected wall is made to seem antiqued.
Her kitchen is all white marble. I nonetheless love that table and would kill for it!! And the ones chairs!
The runner is solely gorgeous.
Her bed room – another stunning chandelier. There are 100s of photos of her portfolio on the Shabby Slips Facebook web page. Many display her townhouse in perspectives now not observed sooner than. If you are a fan – don’t omit it! HERE.
And, consider the tale I did on Diandra Douglas’ property HERE? Well, in case you ever admired her light fixture and sought after it – here’s your likelihood!
Close up of the chandelier.
I realized the similar fixture is now on the market on Shabby Slips web site! This one is in inexperienced which I really like so much higher than the crimson. To visit Shabby Slips new internet website online – go HERE.
